Lo and behold! We just got a promo of Carcass’ new EP – Despicable, thanks to Leoni of Nuclear Blast! This are actually 4 songs on the EP with total of 18 minutes of nerve-wracking melodic death metal. Now let’s dive into it! The artwork represents an ambulance star with a dead serpent around something that looks like ancient thermometer.

The song “The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue“ starts off really slow, with a melodic riff before proceeding with a gallop over which Jeff Walker unleashes his ghastly growling. The song speeds up, bringing the death metal havoc to our ears. the whirlwind that follows will surely catch you off guard. Pure unshackled death metal madness! It’s funny to note that Jeff Walker, Bill Steer still shares vocal duties along with Daniel Wilding who also had growling parts on this release. The brutal riff which makes the end of the song will make your day! “The Long and Winding Bier Road” once again starts with a pretty neat melody and then things get messy in classic Carcass fashion. This is one of those songs where the whole festival crowd is showing horns and singing along. It is a mid-tempo track but still crushing enough to make you headbang all the way through. The solo pierces the song in half. Catchy track! “Under the Scalpel Blade” is as brutal as its title suggests. A true death metal blood splatter! The song starts slow and it keeps on giving some nasty riffs all around. It also gives it a melodic death metal feel right before the solo. But then, things become pure death metal with BRUTAL growling! The last song, “Slaughtered in Soho” is another melodic death metal piece of art. That melody is an ear worm, good luck getting rid of it. Gotta love those rock leads! Hands down for that!

Carcass' Despicable EP is an unavoidable release for all the melodic death metal Birmingham pioneers’ fans. The band did a great job with the songs. Sadly, it’s only 18 minutes of material which will not be included in their upcoming 2021 album. But still, it’s good enough to quench our thirst for some bloody CARCASS! In case of emergency, call the ambulance or your local psychiatrist. CARCASS KILLS!
